Joy App brings many years of classroom and one-on-one experience educating gifted/talented students and those with learning differences in private, public and international schools.

During that time, she has worked closely with many families. Certified in Special Ed and Gifted/Talented Ed, Joy holds a Bachelor of Science degree in education, did her graduate work in gifted ed and has completed UCLA's College Counseling Certification program with Distinction.

Being familiar with many college campuses and admissions can be extremely beneficial to applicants. Joy travels nationwide approximately 20% of the year, developing relationships with college support services, admissions personnel, and faculty members. She also meets with college admissions representatives who visit Houston in the fall/spring.

She knows that all colleges have different personalities and management systems. Because of this, she stays current regarding the latest college admissions trends and assistive technologies by visiting college campuses, attending professional conferences across the country and networking with other professionals nationwide.  Joy assists high school students in finding best fit colleges and specializes in, but is not limited to G/T, LD/ADHD and 2E (LD/Gifted). She customizes the college planning experience for her clients and helps families understand the concept of how colleges utilize student positioning.

Joy is a member of the Higher Education Consultants Association (HECA), Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA), Texas Association for College Admission Counseling (TACAC), National College Advocacy Group (NCAG), and the Learning Disabilities Association (LDA). She is also on the National Admissions Advisory board for High Point University in NC.

She holds workshops for college-bound students and their families on a variety of topics which include: Maximizing College Visits, Ahead of the Game, Slaying Essay Dragons, Successful Post Secondary Transition and more. She also brings in guest speakers for other venues such as financial aid and parental transitions and presents sessions on LD College Planning for  national conferences, such as NCAG and HECA.  Joy holds workshops in Houston, San Antonio and Austin and is available to speak to local parent and school groups.
